Ammonite Fossil Earrings

Ammonite Fossil Earrings

Fascinating, simple, pretty. Fibonacci spiral totally visible.

As I think you can see from the photos, ammonites, while they are obviously the same species, are as different as fingerprints. Even though these earrings are halves of the same shell, you can see subtle differences in color. This is partly just how things are, but also, since they are fossils, dependent on how old they are, the conditions under which they were fossilized, and the degree of skill in cutting, polishing, etc. once they've been chosen to become jewelry.

Ammonites were not really a nautilus, but a different cephalopod with the same spiral shell ratio. They no longer exist except as fossils. For more info, check out my blog, http://ThoseBlueRememberedHills.blogspot.com

The earrings in this photo have been sold. but i can make you a similar pair in terms of size, color, and markings, and ear wires The small beads between the ammonites & ear wires may not be identical to the picture, but will be similar in size and chosen to complement the ammonite. If you have a request for a specific color, material, or shape, convo & we'll try to accommodate.

This piece should be fine under normal wearing conditions. I would, however, keep it outside car shoulder belts, away from animals and small children, and out of bathtubs and swimming pools.
